I have a DV4-2160us Laptop, Win 7 Pro 64 bit, Hard drive totally broken after daughter dropped the laptop. No warranty. Ordered Factory restore disks, installed new 500gb hdd. Will not boot to the Recovery disks, however it would let me install a copy of Win7 that I dl'd. Please help me restore to Factory Condition. I have spent hours trying to find the solution, and Tech Support says I MUST have the 320gb HDD purchased from HP in order to perform the recover function. Why would that matter? Once again, PLEASE HELP. Thank you

Hard drive does not need to be exactly the same size, but some recovery discs will not work on Advanced Format hard drives regardless of size, so this could present a problem once you figure out why it will not boot from the Recovery disc 1, which has nothing to do with the hard drive.
