HP Pavilion dv7-4070er
Windows 7

Hello everyone. I am the "lucky" owner of HP Pavilion dv7-4070er.

To start with I use Windows 7 Home Premium 64-bit version

Till the last month I had no problems using my notebook. But then it occured to me that new drivers for my video card were need since my notebook is already 4 years old. Plus I started to notice that there were some minor issues when I watched videos or played games. The answer was obvious - just download new drivers and voilà. I never realised how wrong I was and how much pain it would cause. As I considered myself a smart person I looked up for what exactly needed to be upgraded. Turned out I have two video cards. But unlike owners of dv7-4070us mine were not ATI+Intel but

AMD M880G with ATI Mobility Radeon HD 4250 + ATI Mobility Radeon HD 5650.

And then the circus began.

I spent 6 days(almost 7 hours a day) looking for a way to download and successfully install new drivers. AMD told me to ask HP and HP revealed that there're no drivers for my cards(suitable for my notebook). So I turned to forums. I read EVERY single thread related to my video cards. But sadly the only working solutions were provided for ATI+Intel video cards. I found no working solutions for ATI+ATI. To be honest, there were even no at least clear ways to install drivers on ATI+ATI.

Well, now I'm in utter despair. My notebook is a really powerfull machine. It works great even when I'm playing DA2(as example) on high settings. And it's a really good one for a student like me. Do I have to say that I currently have no ways to buy a new one?

I can't be the one with such problems. And I am definitely not the only one who decided to ask for help. But still the question is: Can someone help me to install new drivers on my ATI+ATI video cards? Or at least give new ideas to test.

Hi KitPipin,

I have a notebook with same graphics configuration  HP dv6 3152 sl with AMD880G with HD4250 + mobility radeon HD5650.

I'm having hard times to make graphics work with windows 10.

I found no way to swicth graphics under windows 10 but  working solution for drivers.

Windows drivers do not work, but latest AMD crimson drivers yes.

Try to download AMD crimson beta 15.11.1 (date 30/11/2015).

After install you should see in device manager:

Radeon HD 5000 Series (driver 15.300.1025.1001 date 29/11/2015)

Radeon HD 4200 Series (driver 8.970.100.9001 date 13/01/2015)

This is for windows 10 latest update, but maybe works for seven.

With this configuration I could play 1080 videos in youtube VP9 codec without problems.

Also passmark test submit around 600 points in 3D score confirming graphics was working at full power.
