Hi, I have an HP pavilion dv4 and recently it has been having problems. The screen won't turn on upon start up. I can hear the fans going, the little keyboard lights and whatnot come on and when I press the caps lock the light will come on and off like normal. The screen isn't totally pitch black either, it is illuminated but still blank/black. I have tried unplugging the laptop, taking out the battery and holding the power button down for a minute a few times now and while it worked a couple days ago it no longer seems to help. Any ideas on what the issue could be? And any suggestions of where to go/ who to see about this if I can't figure it out on my own? Thanks.

Thank you so very much for responding so quickly. I do have a question before I start. Will this remove what I have on the laptop ?

Hey JoColl,

No, it will give you some options before doing a restore.

This document will help as well. I would start with it and if you do not get results then look at recovery options.
