Hi all,

I use an EliteBook 8470p and noticed that only one of the built-in front speakers is working.

I checked all settings, levels, balance, performed all kinds of tests and updated the audio driver to its latest version.

The result is that I still hear all sound from the left speaker only. When testing, I hear both left and right channels from the same place, just like if it was Mono. Headphones work normally.

The only plausable explanation I managed to find, besides a defect, is from 2008 and for a completely different model: the layout of the speakers had changed back then and two speakers were nested in one of the speaker slots. However, this has been more than five years ago and I believe it is not applicable.

If someone is familiar with the issue or has taken this machine apart, please let me know what you think.

Thanks!

Hi Buzev

I did a check on my 8470p after seeing this post.

My machine does have 2 speakers, but they're right next to each other on the left hand side of the machine.  If I put hy head close enough, I can tell that one's slightly in front of the other, but having them both on one side certainly defeats the purpose of having stereo sound!

It would seem yours is laid out similarly.

Cheers

Andrew

Hi Toffy,

I went through each of these steps prior to posting here. I confirm my initial statement.

I am running W7 and tried every audio driver offered for both W7 and W8, the result was the same.

It seems like my right speaker is physically not there or disconnected, so I wonder if it is a hardware flaw or by design both speakers are nested behind the left opening.

Cheers!

Hi Toffy, hi Andrew,

Thank you for your kind assistance. I certainly hope at least in the consumer version it is laid our properly.

Since mine is just my company PC I will live with it and use headphones or external speakers when I want stereo.

Cheers!

Thank you, Andrew, for taking the time to check this out, and for posting your results. I have the same situation as the OP and, at some point, may have spent several hours trying to fix the "problem".
