Hey Guys,

We just started purchasing the HP Elitebook 840 G1 Laptop for our standard business laptop.

The only issue I have run in to so far is that after a short amount of time (3-45mins) the wireless connection speed drops from 300 Mbps to 4-12 Mbps.

Once this has occured, everything obviously loads much slower, if at all.

We've had this issue across multiple wireless networks both within and outside of the business.

Any ideas what could be causing this?

Thanks,

Jake

I manually changed each networking device to never be power off in device manager and I changed the power plan to maximum performance in an attempt to troubleshoot this before I posted.

As I stated originally, it happens across multiple networks. Updating the router firmware would be of no use as it is not occuring only on one router.

Hi,

Regarding slow speeds with: Intel® Dual Band Wireless-AC 7260

The solution to the slow network speeds with wireless was dramtically and instantly fixed by the new 17.0.3 driver from Intel.

I went from downloading via my home LAN from 2,3-3 mb/s to 16-20 mb/s immediatly after installation, without reboot.

I used below file with a clean/new installation of Windows 7:

Wireless_17.0.3_Ds64.exe

http://downloadmirror.intel.com/23944/eng/Wireless_17.0.3_Ds64.exe

however, all links available for these drivers are available here, for Win7 and Win8

Good luck! Enjoy your new 840's ! im really enjoying mine.. 😉

I just updated HP EliteBook 840 G1 to Fedora "Heisenbug" (Fedora 20) using Fedora-Live-Desktop-x86_64_20.

Once I installed, updates system compenenbts etc. I cannot get the Wifi to work. The HP Elitebook Wifi Button nor the system's network settings have it listed or included. [Only option is "WIRED"]

....Are their any Linux users that can help a 'noobie' with step-by-step directions on how to get the wifi working?

Thanks a bunch...runs great when wired btw :smileyhappy:

Hello,

I think it has nothing to do with the driver:

I also have an issue with my laptop's WLAN performance, but only when I close the lid (using the docking station): I can see the transmit power which arrives at the modem as is really weak; whereas the receive power at the laptop seems OK.

Opening the lid by ~ 5cm makes the power increase to performance which is about OK.

Fully open lid >150Mb/s, fully closed led: partially <5Mb/s (~5 m distance to router).

This is obviously a general problem with laptops having the antenny close to the main body, due to the thin lid.

This shall be communicated to the users by hp:

When using the dock you should not close the lid (at least fully), or use the LAN via the dock instead.

laptop: Elitebook 840 G1 (H5G18ET#ABD), latest drivers installed
