EliteBook 8460p
Microsoft Windows 10 (64-bit)

The battery on my HP EliteBook 8460p will not charge. However, it will run while being plugged in without a battery.

Things I've tried:

1. I've attempted to do a hard reset on it after uninstalling all of the battery related devices in the Device Manager. This did not change anything.

2. I purchased a new battery but it is not charging this battery either.

3. I tried to do this BIOS update because it sounds like my exact issue but it will not let me finish the update after the restart because it says it is not connected to an external power source. I've tried this both with and without the battery while plugged in. http://h20564.www2.hp.com/hpsc/doc/public/display?docId=emr_na-c03749188

Any other suggestions for things to try?

Thanks!

Hello chynaaa,

You might want to take a look at this document: Battery Does not Power Notebook or Hold a Charge.

It suggests troubleshooting steps to determine if the problem is the battery, the power supply, or the system board.

You might find the answer to your battery/power issue as you work through the steps in that HP support article.

Hope this helps, for any further queries reply to the post and feel free to join us again !!
