Hello everyone 🙂
When I'm at office I've my Elite Book 820 G1 docked into the 2013 Ultraslim Docking Station.
So the laptop scrren is closed and I can't access to keyboard and buttons of the laptop.
How can I enable/disable, even force, the wireless ?
The matter is that I would use the office ethernet LAN within windows 7 and the wireless connection in a virtual ubuntu machine, and if the ethernet cable is plugged in I don't have the wireless connection available in my tray and the virtual machine cannot recognise it and then connecting via tethering with my smartphone.
Thanks a lot for any suggestion.
Bye 😉

Hi,
Is it YOUR machine or your company's machine ? Nearly all my laptops at home or at work use docking stations or port replicators from Windows 7 to Windows 10, they all automatically use BOTH wired and wireless
Can it automatically connect to wireless without LAN cable and the lid closed ? If no, that means you have to change (a) power management option to allow wireless ON when close the lid or (b) do not put your computer go to sleep when close the lid. The following steps may help:
(a) Device Manager > Network adapters
Wireless Properties > Power Management
- now you can see what you need to do.
(b) Power option, when close the lid do nothing.
Regards.

Hi Banhien
Thanks for your reply.
The machine is my company's machine, that is connected via LAN with our corporate network.
I use my pc under a monitor stand, so I find it awkward to lift the lid to enable or disable the wi-fi.
After disconnecting the rj cable from the docking station, I disabled the power management to prevent disabling wi-fi when closing the lid. I left wi-fi on: it keeps running even if I close the lid:
PAP5450DUO is my smartphone with tethering enabled. In the left panel, the Wireless Disable button is clickable. If I reconnect the rj cable the wireless connection is disconnected and the Wireless Enable button is grayed out.
I searched various forums, but I have not found how to disable this feature.
Regards

Hi,
Since it your company's machine, please talk with your Network Administrator, he/she can work this out for you. On my work machines, I've got no choice. They setup hardware and software using station id from AD and 4 or 5 other security "gates" when turning on machines at work.
At home or on the road, we I can use standard wifi on the market now and using smart card but again ONLY from company's machines, not from private machine.
Regards.
