In the past few weeks my keys have having problems. My d key would work on and off and when I got home from school yesterday it was my enter key. same with f and some other keys. Ive had the system fan 90b problem for the past month or two and at one point I put bottle caps under my laptop but I stopped since i wasnt always using my laptop on a table. If you arent familiar with fan problems they require you to press enter at the start up or it will shutdown. after numerous times of trying to press enter a lot i finallly passed it and the enter key worked about 2/5 times while on internet unlike it did on startup where it was 0. some q and a row keys had problems aswell but they would work after a few tries. today I TRY 30 plus times but enter wouldnt work. for some reason i have dust on the side and under my keys but i had that for a while now. i took my entr key off and press button. didnt work. even before and after i remove dust. what can i do? THANKS!

Hi EazyDI,

I am sorry to hear about this issue.

Please perform the following troubleshooting steps for fixing the Keyboard issue. We can look into the fan issue later.

  1. Shut down the computer and restart.
  2. Press the Esc key repeatedly to see if the Startup Menu screen displays.

NOTE:If the Startup Menu screen does not open, the integrated keyboard hardware is not working. The integrated keyboard in the Notebook should be serviced or replaced. To continue using the notebook PC, connect a USB wired keyboard to a USB port and restart the computer. Contact HP for further assistance.

  1. If the Startup Menu screen opens, press the F10 key to open the BIOS settings. Press F5 to load the default settings, then press F10 to accept the changes.
  2. Restart the computer.

If the keyboard works in Windows, you are done.

If the keyboard is not working in Windows, continue with these steps to uninstall and reinstall the keyboard software in Device Manager.

  1. Click Start  , then click Control Panel .

Control Panel opens.

  1. Click Hardware and Sound .

Device Manager opens.

  1. Click View , and select Show Hidden Devices .

  1. Double-click Keyboards , right-click the keyboard name, and then click the Uninstall button to remove the device from Windows.

10. Restart the computer.

11. The keyboard should now work correctly.

If the keyboard still fails, reinstall and update the keyboard software .

12. Your computer comes with several software programs that can test the keyboard for key or hardware failures. For more information, see the HP Support document Testing for Hardware Failures .

I am waiting to hear back from you.
