Hi folks,
I'm hoping someone can help me. I've just bought a new laptop, the HP Envy 17-j053ea and fitted a SSD to it along with Windows 7 Pro. I've managed to locate drivers and get most things working, but there are still a few outstanding things that I can't seem to get the right driver for. When I go into device manager, under "Other devices" I get the following list that still require a driver. I'm going crazy trying to find the right ones. On the page on HP I've tried a couple that I thought were for the ethernet device, but they haven't worked, so I'm at a bit of a loss now. Thankfully I managed to get the WiFi working so at least I can still come on the internet and look for solutions etc.
1. Ethernet Controller.
2. PCI Device.
3. SM Bus Device.
4. Unknown Device.
5. Unknown Device.
Many thanks,
Chad.

Thanks for the quick reply. Using your method I've now shortened the list a little. The two unkown devices are now gone. One of them was something to do with 3D drivers and the other was the fingerprint scanner. Not sure if they function as they should just yet, but they are gone from the "Unknown Device" now. I just have the other three remaining.
1. Ethernet Controller.
PCI\VEN_10EC&DEV_8168&SUBSYS_1966103C&REV_0C Try this driver
PCI\VEN_10EC&DEV_8168&SUBSYS_1966103C
PCI\VEN_10EC&DEV_8168&CC_020000
PCI\VEN_10EC&DEV_8168&CC_0200
2. PCI Device.
PCI\VEN_10EC&DEV_5227&SUBSYS_1966103C&REV_01 Use the driver at the web support portal for the Realtek PCIe card reader. The driver there is for Windows 7 and Windows 8
PCI\VEN_10EC&DEV_5227&SUBSYS_1966103C
PCI\VEN_10EC&DEV_5227&CC_FF0000
PCI\VEN_10EC&DEV_5227&CC_FF00
3. SM Bus Controller.
PCI\VEN_8086&DEV_8C22&SUBSYS_1966103C&REV_04 Get this driver from the Intel download Center. You have an Intel 8 series chipset
PCI\VEN_8086&DEV_8C22&SUBSYS_1966103C
PCI\VEN_8086&DEV_8C22&CC_0C0500
PCI\VEN_8086&DEV_8C22&CC_0C05

Chad.

This is the driver for the USB 3.0
The simple solution may be for you to contact forum member @et2013. He has an identical notebook to yours and has installed Windows 7 on it. Send him a PM. Perhaps he will be nice enough to help you as he as already done much of the grunt work.
It is likely that you also need to identify the maker of the SD multimedia memory card slot. That is one of the unkonwn devices. It is likely to be Realtek.
What is the installed CPU and chipset?
Have you identified the devices with PCI\VEN hardware ids yet? (use the device manager). Select devices that need drivers and right click them Click on properties and then choose the details tab.
If your notebook has an Intel chipset you will need to go to the Intel Download center to find the Windows 7 chipset driver. You will be able to find the Windows 7 version of the IMEI driver at Intel. That one will take care of the SMBus driver issue.

This is great stuff, thank you ever so much for your help. Everything has installed great now apart from one.
3. SM Bus Controller.
I tried downloading what I thought was the right file, but after a restart, the display kept goin off so I had to use a restore point that I'd set up before installing it. So I'm not sure what to do with this one?
Chad.

Woohoo! I've done it! It was the built in touch pad that needed a driver. I hadn't noticed it not working with using an external mouse. But now that I've installed a driver for that, all is well in the device manager. Thank you very very much for all your help. I am over the moon now! :manvery-happy:
Thanks again,
Chad.
