hi,

i have an hp mini 210-1030nr. last night i tried installing ubuntu as the operating system, from a usb. it erased everything from my netbook. however, the installation was faulty. i want to try to install it again, from the usb, but now i cannot seem to access the boot menu. i press F9, but nothing happens. all i get is a black screen. in fact, i cannot access anything, but the startup menu by pressing esc. but nothing happens.

how can i boot from the usb without using F9?

thanks!

Hi,

Try the following.

Shutdown the notebook.  Unplug any external devices, then unplug the AC Adapter and remove the battery.

Now follow the procedure starting on Page 51 of your Maintenance & Service Guide to remove the RTC battery.

Hold down the power button for 30 seconds and then leave the notebook like this for a further 15 minutes.

Re-insert the RTC battery, replace the covers, insert the main battery and plug in the AC Adapter.

Still with nothing else connected, tap away at the esc key as you power on to see if this launches the Start-up Menu correctly.  If it does, try selecting f9 and then insert the USB flash drive containing Ubuntu.  Use the arrow keys to select this as the boot device and hit enter.

Hi David,

Thanks for the suggestion.

I tried this four times, but it didn't work. The first time I did it, I was able to get into the boot menu, but it wouldn't even detect the usb. After that, I restarted the computer, but the same as before happened--black screen after the HP logo. So I took out the RTC battery again. As I said, after the first time, I tried this three times more, but wasn't able to bring up the boot menu again.

Any other suggestions?

Hi David, I tried this several times, but it didn't work. Know the computer only displays this:

Boot Device Not Found
Please install an operating system
Hard Disk (3F0)
F2 System Diagnostcs
for more information, please visit: www.hp.com/go/techcenter/startup

It doesn't go any further from that point. Any suggestions?

Hi,

Tap away at the esc key as you power on to see if this still launches the Start-up Menu.  If it does, can you access the Bios Menu ( usually f10 )?
