If you received a fan error stating it is not working correctly,It may still be working abd  you do not notice any overheating, but it is an indication that it could fail at any time. 

I would thing about replacing the fan, as overheating (should it happen) can cause damage.

 

Here is a link to HP Pavilion g7 Notebook PC Maintenance and Service Guide.  Please note chapter 3, page 25, item 25 for the part number for a replacement fan.
