Hi,

My HP ProCurve 1810G-8 Ethernet Switch works ok, but still has the original firmware version P.1.6
I tried using a browser (HTTP) to update the firmware to P.1.17 and P.1.20. It does not work.

After clicking download the browser just hangs.
Restoring to factory defaults does not make a difference.

What can I do to fix this?

Desperately seeking updates,

Mattt

Here is the documentation for your switch, it refers to a different update but the update process should still be the same.

Navigate to the section "Updating the Switch Software" for detailed instructions on how to update the firmware.

y2ken,

Thanks for the hint, unfortunately I already studied and followed similar documentation of different patches.

The firmware update failed.

I used different browsers in my many attempts: Firefox 6.02, Internet Explorer 9.0.8112, Opera 11.51 and Safari 5.1

I tried updating directly to firmware version P.2.2. too.

The behaviour is different in case of attempting to update to firmware P.2.2

 - After a while a popup indicates that the image file is too big.

 - Also, using P.2.2 the switch does NOT reboot after a few seconds after I started the update process...

You are trying to update from P.1.6 to P.1.17 and P.1.20?

It seems to me that the current P.1.6 firmware is the newest version of those you listed.

P1.6 is higher than P1.1 or P1.2.  ? Right?

That's probably why the update is failing. You are trying to 'update' to an older version.

Searched and found the different firmware versions...

I tried to upgrade to several (all?) official released firmware versions:

P.1.6 (The same version as the switch already has)

P.1.8

P.1.13

P.1.14

P.1.16

P.1.17

P.1.20

P.2.2 (Can only be installed after P.1.20 is installed, tried it anyway and got the expected error: too big)

In all attempts I failed to update the firmware...

Desperately seeking cause/solution,

Mattt

You may have better luck finding a solution on the "HP Enterprise Business Community" forum.

A recent thread on that forum says the the HP ProCurve 1810G comes with a lifetime warranty so you should be able to get it serviced or replaced.
