Hello Allan,
I see that you're getting a message after using recovery media and doing updates that windows is failing the updates and reverting. That this has last for over an hour. I will try to help you with this.
If you haven't yet, you may want to try this: Performing a Hard Reset or Forced Reset
Looking into this issue for you, I was able to find this post on the EightForums.com: Windows update: Failure configuring Windows Updates. Rever.
Through a few posts, it leads to disabling Secure boot in the BIOS, then running the updates and then to re-enable secure boot.
This document: Secure Boot (Windows 8), can help you with how to do that.
Please let me know if this helps, thank you for posting on the HP Forums.

Hi Futoji,
i tried this before you replyed to me :-
- Type Windows key + R
- Type in msconfig.exe and hit enter
- Select the Services tab on the top
- Check the box on the bottom that says Hide all Microsoft services
- Click Disable all
- Do an “Update and Restart” of the computer
At this point, the updates installed fine upon reboot. It should be noted that after rebooting, those services you unchecked may all be running again, which is fine.
i found this on : http://wafflesatnoon.com/a-solution-to-the-failure-configuring-windows-updates-windows-8-issue/ and

Hi Allan,
For the wireless issue you seem to be having with connecting to your network, please take a look at this document: Troubleshooting Wireless Network and Internet (Windows 😎.
If you've tried troubleshooting the issue already, you may have attempted some of the steps. However, I would still like you to read it over. There's troubleshooting steps not just for the Notebook, but also the network in general that may help to determine if there's a faulty network card, or may an issue with the router/modem.
Please let me know if this is able to help you out.
Thanks for the reply.

Hello,
I see that you're also getting an error "failure configuring Windows updates, reverting changes". I will try to help you with this.
I would like to start by first directing you to my earlier post. Have you tried everything suggested here? If not please start with that.
Let me know if it helps or not. If it does not, please provide me with the Model and Product number of your Notebook. Thank you for posting on the HP Forums.

I asked Microsoft for support with my recently purchased HP 2000-2d54TU. It came with Windows 8 and I started the Windows Updates. It failed with error "Failure configuring Windows updates. Reverting changes". The messages stayed on screen for (probably) one to one and a half hours. I thought the computer is frozen (Microsoft said it should take about 30 minutes to revert the changes) and I restarted it. After restart, it got immediately in Windows Update mode and the same message appeared on screen. I contacted Microsoft online for help. During the conversation, eventually the laptop finished to revert the changes so I left the tech take control of the Windows Update process.
He followed the process as given here http://answers.microsoft.com/en-us/windows/forum/windows_other-windows_update/windows-update-error-c...
Now it all appears to be fine (updates are complete) and he informed me that the cause of the Windows Update failure was the firewall in the Norton Internet Security software, which prevented the updates to perform correctly.
HP laptop came by default with Norton installed. On one hand, Windows should have not allowed to run the updates while the third party firewall was still active and on the other hand, HP should mention in their support that this could be a possible cause of Windows Update failure.
Cheers,
Nick
