this is the one that fixed my daughter's laptop.

You have to be able to get to the command prompt. 

do the bootrec commands above, worked like a charm.

Thank you! Finally got it past the error screen. I guess that's what happens when you restart on an update. In my defense windows decided to update during an online test but. Just wanted to say you saved my life. 🙂
