Elitebook Folio 1040 G2
Microsoft Windows 8 (32-bit)

My Elitebook Folio 1040 G2 is failing to start up.  Currently the AC adaptor is plugged in but the Power Button and Caps Lock leds are flashing white and the Battery LED is flashing orange. The battery is totally drained and the laptop will not start.

Immediately prior to this problem I was running a scan on the laptop which was taking several hours and I noticed that the battery was not charging even though the AC adaptor was plugged in.  The battery level was 4% for a couple of hours and then the laptop turned off (I assume because the battery was drained).

Based upon previous instances of this problem reported  on the forum I have tried the following

  • removing the  AC supply and holding the power button and mute button for> 30secs
  • removing the  AC supply and holding the power button and esc button for> 30secs
  • removing the  AC supply and holding the power button and wireless button for> 30secs
  • removing the AC supply and disconnecting the internal battery and holding  power button and mutebutton for> 3osecs
  • removing the two screws from the middle back of the computer base and then hard restarting

In each case the flashing lights and failure to start remain.  I  am assuming the ac adaptor is alright as the flashing lights only occur when this is plugged into the laptop.

Doesanybody have any ideas as to how this can be resolved?

it could certainly be some kind of hardware problem. I believe your EliteBook should have a 3 year warranty. Please, reach out to HP support

Thanks Dan

HP did collect the unit from me and took it in for repair under warranty (I believe there is a three year warranty for this product which I bought last year).

A few days later the repair team contacted me too say that they needed to know the serial number of the elitebook in order for them to do a repair. I had to advise them that I did not know the serial number but as they were in posession of the laptop I asked if they could identify the serial number.  They adivsed that they couldn't and instead they sent the unit back to me unrepaired.  I explicitly asked them not to send the unit back to me as I needed it to be repaired and asked for my repair to be escalated to someone in a management role.  I was advised this was not possible but they promised to raise my concerns as a complaint.  My request has gone ignored, I have not had any contact from HP with regard to my complaint and I have now taken receipt of the unrepaired unit.  I now understand that my unit was sent outside of the UK to a repairfacility in Poland; I did not give express permission forthis to happen and it now explains the difficulty I have had talking to people in the repair centre who have had a rudimentary understanding of English.

So I am now at my wits end.    Two weeks have lapsed since my original issue and I have not been able to progress the repair one iota.    Any ideas on how to navigate this conundrum?

Regards
