The solution does not work.
Irrespective of whether the action keys are enabled or disabled whenever I, say press F2 in Exel to edit a cell, the screen brightness reduces. I want the keys to work as a standard keyboard would.
Any ideas?
Thanks

Hello MMatthews. I understand you're having some trouble with your function keys.
Are you making sure to save the changes are setting Action Key Mode to disabled? In order for the changes to take effect you have to navigate to the "Exit" section and select "Exit Saving Changes."
Let me know if this is the case. Have a great day!

I have a Pavilion g7 and I'm having this issue. I have gone into the BIOS twice with settings set as enabled, and disabled, and I still have to press fn+f11 to change my fullscreen; as just f11 mutes my sound. I'm not sure what to do.

The BIOS solution did work on my new HP Pavilion 17-inch laptop. Thank you for that.
I see that HP uniquely considers the Function keys (F1-F12) to be "ACTION KEYS." This deviates from the industry standards. They are Function keys to the rest of the PC world. The graphics on the keys should have the F1 through F12 in large type, rather than tiny type.
It's not good that HP has chosen its own path for how keyboards work. People who use Windows on a variety of computers rely on the keyboards to all work in similar ways.
If HP wanted to build this feature in, it should 1) be well-documented and 2) be an option, not the default setting.

the problem is... it doesn't stay that way . it goes back. not sure if it's because there has been an upate or not. i can't tell when it switches back and forth until i try to use it and it's back to the same old
why in the world doesn't HP make it simplar? My first HP, and i'm not liking this feature (or lack thereof)

If you made the adjustment to disable action keys in the BIOS you should have no problem with the setting switching on its own, unless you have some other software in Windows that's reversing the setting.
Kleestafford, Please confirm that you used the BIOS setting to make the change.
