I didn't take it that far apart lol meaning I didn't take the motherboard out at all I was to nervous didn't want to royally messing it up. I'm just frustrated that it was working and now it's not ever since I started the hp recovery system. The very first time it shut off i do remember it said " your computer shut down due to thermal" something and to protect it, it shut down but I'm just lost for words just wish it worked again

The "heat-pipe" sits on top of the CPU, and the CPU is seated into the motherboard.

So, did you remove the "heat-pipe" to get access to the fan?

Did you remove the CPU from the motherboard?

Did you remove the motherboard from its mounting in the case?

Since you are not a qualified computer technician, I think that it is time for you to take the computer (and the power-adapter) to a qualified computer technician.  Mention that "due to thermal" message, to help with the trouble-shooting.

No I took everything apart and took off the keyboard and cover surrounding the keyboard to where you could see the fan and motherboard but never removed the mother board I didn't want to break it lol

Did you physically remove the fan, in order to clean it?

Did you remove the "heat-pipe" (a large piece of copper) too?

No I didn't physically remove the fan or heat pipe at all I cleaned the fan while it was sitting in the laptop..like I said I didn't take the motherboard out that has the fan attached to it I just cleaned the blades as I turned it and cleaned each blade to the best I could
