I am SO frustrated with this. Seriously, if someone could finally help me solve this problem I would be really really greatful, because I have spent so many hours trying to fix this problem that I'm at my witsend.

I'm running Windows 7 64bit, on a Pavilion dv6 model.

Both of my headphone jacks have gotten damaged to where I can only get sound through the right ear piece. I remedied this by buying a "Logitech USB To 3.5mm Jack Audio Adapter". Originally Beats Audio WAS effecting the adapter, I could change the bass level, or turn it off and clearly hear a difference in quality through my headphones, but now I can't get it to work with the adapter.

I finally was able to to fix the previous Beats Audio problem I had, and it WAS working through the adapter for a very short period of time after I did a fresh reinstall of the IDT High Def Audio Codec, until I rebooted.. so really, what gives?

Note: this thread was originally about my Beats Audio not working at all, but I've since fixed that problem. I am going to leave my discription of this up incase it gives any insight.

Text below this is detailing my previous problem where I could not get Beats Audio to work.

I had this problem for a very, very long time before I reinstalled my OS back  in december of last year. My sound quality is so bad without beats audio on that I just can't stand it, even after going in to the sound control panel and changing everything to improve audio quality. Additionally, if anyone can recommend a different program that I can use to boost my sound quality, it would be much appreciated!

I will be very specific about what the problem is, as it seems like a lot of people have similar problems to mine.

Fn+b (Also Fn+esc) does not work, but I can open the Beats Audio control panel no problem, from there I can change levels on things, but cannot actually get beats to turn on! what I mean is that I can tick the "Beats Audio" box under the "Listening experience" tab, but it will never turn on. I have also tried hitting the "Reset" bottom under the "Advanced settings" tab which also did nothing.

The problem did not start until I turned Beats off due to a headache (I had previously been able to turn it on/off without a problem) and then did a scan with HP Security Essentials. The scan found and removed 4 "high threat" items which I believe were labeled as an Expiro virus.

I have already tried uninstalling via Device manager (I ticked the option to delete driver software) and letting it automatically reinstall, I've tried uninstalling and booting in safe mode to manually install the driver from HP's listed drivers. I've tried manually starting Beats via the "Beatsx64.exe" in the Hewlette package quicklaunch folder.

I would try reinstalling with HP's Recovery Manager, but I found that it wasn't listed under "all programs", so I found a download for it, but when I go to open it (Only way I can open it is through the actual exe file) it says it's missing  "HardDisk.dll"

Hey Curry, I too, among many, have had the odd problem with HP's implementation of Beats Audio, and it's driver/software suite. You may want to try my solution which involved the loss of Beats 5 white sliders. The sliders would move, but didn't alter the sound. This error took place a year or so after purchase. Using Revo uninstaller to remove most traces of the driver package, and then installing the second oldest IDT Beats driver package for your lappy. The newest Beats package may work fine after a complete uninstall, but mines working using the method outlined, and I don't mess with stuff that aint broke! lol Just as HP released a new bios for my lappy, mine is working fine, and I have no inkling to fool with it as I can bet you bottom dollar, the newest drivers all have something to do with Windows 8 which I do not have. The latest says it helps with memory timing or some such, but again, my lappy works such as it is, and I'm not about to fool around too much with it until I'm prepared to do a complete reinstall which will be soon anyway. Here is my original post on how I regained those five white sliders funcionality which may help you as well; worth a shot..

P.S. The reason for Revo Uninstaller is it removes most if not all traces of the previous Beats install. The thought behind not using the latest driver is the fact it was redesigned to work with Windows 8, and HP's Assistant auto installed the upgrade for me renering Beats useless. The red sliders still worked, but not the white. This is why I chose to use the older Beats package, but, the new package may work fine; however mine is working, and I don't want to take the time to do a clean uninstall, reinstall of the new package, and then have to revert back once again should it not work. My DV6-6b47dx dates from around November of 2011, and purchased in Jan of 2012;  so, I used the original driver that was installed when I purchased the laptop new, and the five white sliders came back. As of now I have Assistant set to not download anything or notify me of any new available updates. I check myself. I have found HP's software will install things without my knowledge, or I may accidently install the wrong driver or one that doesn't work or been tested with this laptop which has the AMD A8-3510MX APU, 8 GB, 640GB HD, bone stock, no over clock, and running Windows 7 service pack 1. All original drivers are available on your laptop's HP website page by clicking previous versions avaliable under your sound card driver download section.
