Hi,
I have a HP Probook 6550b and I would like to use a 3G SIM Card to use internet.
But my laptop doesn't recognize the sim card I inserted. I installed HP Connection Manager and I couldn't get any option for WWAN. I checked the device manager and everything was looking fine.
I decided to install Gobi Mobile Broadband Driver but in the installation, after the black screen, nothing else come out. The installation stopped or something.
Is there anyone who have any idea how to solve this or have experienced this problem before?
Please help me 🙂
Thanks

Hi,
The black window you saw during the installation just goes away without any confirmation screens when the installation has completed, so I believe the installation was successful. You can verify this by going to programs and features - uninstall a program, and checking that the version of the Gobi driver entry there matches with what you installed.
Your device manager should have an entry under network adapters for the WWAN device (hp un2340).
As you say you installed HP Connection Manager, I assume you are using Windows 7.
HP Connection Manager offers you power controls for WWAN, WiFi and Bluetooth. Check that WWAN is ON, turn it on by pressing the power button for WWAN if not.
HP Connection Manager should also tell you the status on it's main screen, by displaying for instance "No SIM" or "WWAN is Off" or "PIN locked"
Please note also that after you plug in your SIM card, you need to put the battery back in, otherwise the SIM slot stays disabled for security reasons.
Also remember that Windows 7 has built-in connectivity options for WWAN. Just click on the network icon on your taskbar close to the time and date, and you should see WWAN and WiFi options in a list.
The Gobi WWAN solution on 6550b is pretty robust, and with HP Connection Manager you should be able to diagnose the situation effectively. If you still can't get connected, please let me know what it is saying on the main view of the application. Also, would be interesting to know what Windows you are using, and what SIM card you have (all SIMs should be fine though)

Hi,
I also have a HP ProBook 6550b and am having trouble with getting my SIM card to be recognised.
The lpatop previously was running win XP sp3 and was conncetiong to the internet without a problem. The laptop is now running Windows7 Professional 64-bit.
My story so far...
Flashed BIOS to ver F.23 (06/13/2012)
Have HP Connection Manager v4.4.11.1 installed
Downloaded and installed sp53068 QualComm Mobile Broadband Driver - Gobi2000 v1.1.240.0 (13May2011)
- Command prompt opened and then went away.
Device Manager does NOT show hp un2340 uinder Network Adapters.
HP Connection Manager will not connect.
Under \SWSetup\SP53068\QualComm is GobiInstaller.msi
- running this it asks "Repair|Remove QualComm Gobi 2000 for HP"
- running Repair gives "Gobi 2000 Device not found"
- running again I select "Remove QualComm Gobi 2000 for HP" gives me a successful removal
- running again Install again I get "Gobi 2000 Device not found"
Any suggestions?

Hi Stephen,
Is the battery inserted? On models which have the SIM slot in the battery bay, WWAN stays disabled for security reasons until you plug the battery back in.
You mention that the Device Manager does not list the WWAN module - do you see any unknown devices there, or devices marked with a yellow bang?
WWAN can also be off because of the Wireless Button, check that.
HP Connection Manager also offers On/Off controls for the wireless devices, I trust WWAN is On.
Also, check that the physical WWAN module still intact, firmly inserted in it's slot under the service door.
You mention you upgraded the BIOS - check the WWAN settings there just in case. ( F10 or ESC at bootup)
Best regards,
Arcticblue
