and YES, obviously this was a VERY raw deal, and HP is disappointing as well, asking for a $40 fee when I requested the file you suggested.  It's extremely frustrating and a hard loss to take.

and I see now how I got to the BIOS.  It's one of the options when I hit the 'escape' key at start up, instead of F9 for booting up via the CD, which always takes me to 'Setup is starting'...  and then nothing further happens.  Thanks again.   Cheers

Is anyone else willing to chip in with something helpful...?  How about HP themselves...?  Every single vendor is passing the buck, and not one of the businesses invloved wants to take responsibility for this crummy machine.  New Egg.  Atlanta Electronics.  HP.  Each one of you could esily replace this machine with a laptop that functions properly.  The consumer is always being preyed upon.  Reliable and helpful 'customer service' doesn't exist anymore.  Instead, you all have a corporate voice, a monotonous tape loop that essentially has the same message.  Yer **bleep** outa luck if you bought something from us...

Corporate 'bleeps'....
