When I connect my Pavilion dv7 to the LG lcd TV with HDMI the TV says "invalid format." The sound works. How can I get the TV to show what's on my screen? It worked fine until about 2 weeks ago.
I have already tried:
1. installing the latest AGI Catalyst center
2. changing the screen resolution
3. making sure the laptop is set for either duplicate or projector display
4. getting the latest AGI graphics driver
5. turning off TV and laptop and rebooting before and after connecting HDMI cable.
This is a laptop problem, not a TV problem. The TV is recognizing it is connected to the laptop (if I use F4 to switch back to screen display only, the TV message changes from "invalid format" to "no signal."

As you suggested I found my 37LG50 tv has native resolution of 1920x1080p but supports numerous others. I then experimented with various screen resolutions for duplicate display. Most did not work but two did: 1360x768 and 1280x720. Thanx for putting me on the right track.
The highest duplicate display resolution choice I have on the pc is 1600x900. That is not a supported tv display according to the tv manual --the next highest according to the manual is 1360x768, and that in fact is the one that worked.
I am ecstatic about solving this after 6 hours of trolling forums unsuccessfully for an answer.
