I have a old computer with a Intel Celeron 900 2.2 ghz in it.  It uses a HP 1484 motherboard with a Socket P. I am planning on playing around with it to learn about computers and wanted to know if a Intel Core i5-460M Processor would work in it.  It has a Mobile Intel 4 Series Express Chipset Family gpu in it also.

Hi,

http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Socket_P

You can't use an Intel Core i5 on this motherboard because the socket and chipset don't support it. It would have to be an Intel Mobile 5 Series to be compatible with that Core i5 cpu. Tell us what computer it is and we will find you a manual for it. Perhaps you could run a check with CPU-Z

http://www.cpuid.com/softwares/cpu-z.html

to tell us more about the mobo.:)

The motherboard model I have is the HP 1484, with the most current Bios version F.37.  It uses a Socket P processor and has an Intel Celeron 900 2.2ghz in it. The chipset is the Intel GL40.  I was told I could use some of thes processors. What would be the best processor I could put in? Im a highschool student teaching myself this so try not to be to advanced with your wording and I'll post more information if needed.

It's good to know what computer it is. I have seen that this motherboard use CQ62-G62 series laptops but can't be sure. The thing is that not all physically/electronically compatible processors will work on the computer as HP may apply some restrictions in the BIOS and only some specific processors might work your laptop.

See this:

Core 2 Duo, Celeron, Celeron M?, Pentium Dual Core

The best CPU compatible with this GL40 chipset is a T9900 (a friend of mine has it) SLGEE.

Have a look at all those Core 2 Duo TXX00 processors for Socket P. These should work.
