HP 2000 asks for Admin Password but I have none and never did. Can you help me get into the BIOS so I can change boot to accept CD boot for new operating system. I see where you have helped others once the System Disabled comes up. My disable code is: 58711468 Thanks

Steps to be followed:
1. Use the unlock code posted above to enter the BIOS
2. Disable all passwords that are enabled
3. If asked for current password - type the unlock code
4. For new password, just press ENTER key
5. Repeat the same for verify password column.
6. Then leave the BIOS by saving & exit option to save the changes.
Troubleshooting:
Incase if the Password doesn’t work please try a Hard Reset as follows.
1. Shut down the notebook
2. Unplug the AC Adapter and then remove the battery
3a Hold down the Power button for 30 seconds
4. Plug in the Power/AC Adapter (Leave the battery out for the moment) & Start the Notebook
5. If you now see a password box, Please type the same Password I shared before and press enter

Thanks so much. The code worked and I could change the boot sequence. My HP 2000 has corrupted Windows 8 and will not start. I have tried booting from the Windows 8 Cd.... it will not boot from the CD. It also will not run the recovery partition. What can I do? What needs to be done to repair this? I can't fix it if I can't get it to boot. Thanks again.

Hi,
To start with the DVD or flash drive is necessary to disable the secure boot

To boot from cd/dvd- immediately after powering on tap the Esc key. From the menu that appears tap F9 Boot options. Use the arrow key to scroll down to cd/dvd and tap Enter key.
Btw- Sounds like the hard drive may have failed and will need to be replaced. This can trigger the sudden request for a password when none was set. It would also explain why Recovery partition will not boot.
If you are still in warranty HP will send a replacement. If not a retail laptop SATA hard drive can be used. Just be sure to get one of at least equal capacity as the original in order to use Recovery Discs. It can be larger, but not smaller capacity. For instance if you have a 500GB hdd you could use a 750GB hdd but not a 320GB hd

OK... got a temp replacement HDD (160GB), installed Windows 7 and all went well. Got a used replacement 500GB HDD to install Windows 8. The laptop will not recognize the 500GB HDD and says "'Windows cannot be installed to this disk. This computer's hardware may not support booting to this disk. Ensure the disk's controller is enabled in the computer's BIOS menu." I am not sure what has to be enabled. Have checked the EUFI and all seems well but still, cannot install Windows. The 500GB HDD shows 0 partition so it appears to be ready to install Windows. What can I do? Thanks.
