How are you performing the factory restore, recovery manager or recovery disks you created when you got the computer?

To do a factory restore from the hard drive, turn on the computer and repeatedly press the F11 key until "Windows is loading files..." displays on the screen. If your computer originally came with Windows XP or earlier, press F10 to enter recovery instead of F11.   If this is not working properly your recovery partition may be corrupt and you will have to order recovery disks.

To order the disks you will have to contact HP Customer Care, hopefully they are still available::
