HP 240 G3 Notebook PC
Microsoft Windows 8.1 (64-bit)

Hi!

I just purchased a HP 240 G3 laptop, and would like to upgrade RAM to 8 GB.

Here are the laptop specs as obtained from HP support assistant:

Model: HP 240 G3 Notebook PC

Product No.: M1V30PA#ACJ

Processor: Intel(R) Pentium(R) CPU  N3540  @ 2.16GHz

OS: Win 8.1

Current RAM: 2GB  Hynix Semiconductor 1333MHz (DDR3)

Can I go for a 8GB Transcend 1600 MHz, or should I just get 1333 MHz?

Laptop supports upto 8 GB as per seller's brochure.

There is only one slot.

Any help would be greatly appreciated!

Cheers.

Here is the Manual:

Service manual

The Manual actually says if I am reading it right that the Bay Trail models have 2 memory slots. I am skeptical. Does yours have a service cover for the memory? If not, it is going to require motherboard removal to get to it.

It appears that DDR3L-1600 memory is compatible with all versions of this model of laptop although some will downclock to 1333.

The Official HP Part number for an 8 gig module is:

8-GB (PC3L, 12800, 1600-MHz) 693374-001

Many thanks for the quick reply!

Here is what I discovered.

For HP 240 G3 - models that come with Core i3 and above come with 2 RAM slots, and those with Pentium QuadCore have only 1 RAM slot. - You were right.

I replaced the existing 2 GB DDR3L-1600 (which was running at 1333 MHz) with 8 GB DDR3L-1600 (which also runs only at 1333 MHz).

Also, there was no service cover for the RAM, so had to remove the Motherboard to change it.

Thanks again for the help!

Jacob.
