Hello All

First time poster

I have just got a 2540p laptop and I have installed XP on it.  The laptop has a sim card slot behind the battery and I have inserted a vodafone sim card.  I have checked in the device manager and all my drivers are up to date.

Nothing happens with the card installed and I cant find anything on the HP website about the software needed.

Can anyone help?

Hi, and welcome to the HP Support Forum!

In addition to the SIM card which gives you access to a carrier's cellular network, you also need to have a WWAN module.

Does your notebook have one installed?  If not, you can order one from HP, and then you should be all set to go.

WWAN module

HP un2420 Broadband Module for use in all countries and regions    HP Part # 531993-001

HP hs2330 HSPA Mobile Broadband Module for use in all countries and regions HP Part # 574249-001

HP hs2320 HSPA Mobile Broadband Module for use only in Europe, the Middle East, and Africa HP Part # 574248-001

You should check your WWAN compartment to make sure there are antennas pre-installed for the card. There should be.

Here is the link to your service manual for information regarding installing a WWAN module.

Hi !!!

Where can I find a wwan module and can I install it myself or will I need to take it to HP?

How do I know if it is already there or not? My BIOS says "no device present"

Hi:

Look at the link to the service manual I posted above and you will see where the WWAN compartment is located. You also need to make sure the antenna leads are present to connect to the WWAN card.

Use this HP parts store link to see if you can get the part from HP. You may need to change the country at the top of the page as I have it defaulted for the USA.

If the part number you want isn't available you will have to google it to find a place that sells them. You must only buy one of the modules listed with the HP part number or it will not work.

Sir,

i am having problem with my HP laptop sim slot. I want to use it but don't know the procedure. I upgraded my laptops window from Vista homepremium to Windows 7 homepremium. But in the new window i am not having any option for WWAN. Only Bluetooth and WLAN options are available. So what should i do?

Hello bhagabant_74.  I understand you're curious how to use the SIM card slow in your notebook.

Take a look at this document.  It covers how to set up and use the WWAN card.

Let me know if this helps.  I hope you have a great day!
