The HP 6735s laptop stopped working.  Only sign of life, power LED flashes 7 times after on/off switch is pressed.  What's wrong, experts?

I am having the same problem. I'm guessing the hard crashed.

Mine did this to me last week. I've had 2 IT friends look at it. There is a BIOS that will correct the known Motherboard issue. But since we are the lucky ones that can't get it to reboot HP is the only option.

I've called them per their online instructions and was advised by phone I will need the laptop and a p1 phillips head screwdriver for them to assist me. They want us to remove the battery, hard drive and memory before they will proceed.

My IT tech at work has done all of this and followed all of HP's steps and nothing will bring it back to life. I haven't called HP back to tell them it's been done and continues not to work. I was advised by IT at work that I need to get a return back and ship the entire thing to HP, and it's likely they will send me a bill when they correct this 'known' issue.

I wish us all luck. http://support.hp.com/us-en/document/c01087277

I also just discovered the battery has been recalled this year.

Try a hard reset. Sometimes it works and is always the first step to take.

remove the battery and the ac adapter plug from the laptop.

press and hold the power button for fifteen seconds.

install either the battery or ac adapter power and press the power button to attempt a boot into the OS.

If that doesn't work then remove the hard disk to see if it gets past the splash screen and the BIOS whines that it can't find a bootable OS. That would indicate a hard disk failure.

Also worth tying is removing the memory module(s) from the DIMM slots and then reinstalling them. That reseats the modules and cleans some oxidation off the module pins (if there is any)

Another, perhaps a laptopsaver (in a manner of speaking) is the HP Pavilion dv2000/dv6000 and Compaq Presario  v3000/v6000 Series Notebook PCs - HP Limited Warranty... Check it and see if your laptop is covered.

HI,

actually you can have the BIOS chip flashed without it being in the PC. There are companies who specialize in doing this. Here is one stateside. BIOSMAN. In the UK there is Flash Bios repair. There are many others worldwide in the trade. Here is a link to a Google search I did.

Now I know not all (probably not very many) of you know how to remove a BIOS chip, but it really isn't difficult to do. Some companies are willing to let you ship your motherboard to them to have it done. All is not lost. There are resources out there and you can find a company near you that can do what you need to have done.
