I'm currently having a similar problem with a Dual Core 8540p Notebook that I'm trying to upgrade to 2*4GB.

The Kingston KVR13S9S8 1.5V modules that I got allow booting and access into BIOS, but less than a minute after boot Windows either locks up or automatically reboots. I'll try to buy some 1.35V modules and see if they work better.

Ok, the 1.35V modules (Crucial CT51264BF160BJ) didn't work either.

I found a RAM that works, the Corsair CMSA8GX3M2A1066C7

That allowed me to upgrade my 8540p to 8GB.

Great! Congrats! I envy you 🙂 I´ll try it also and hope it´ll work...

BUT, One question - I found that this memory kit is specially designed for MAC (so it is super weird if it works with HP, while the Kingston module I bought doesn´t, even when it should be specially designed for HP notebooks... Strange...)

I think that "MAC Memory" doesn't really exist, I don't see the reason why the OS should matter for a RAM module. It's probably rather a memory module that's designed for the hardware/BIOS combination that Apple used for their 2011 notebooks, and it happens to be the same that HP did.

One thing that's different about them is that they have 8 IC chips per module instead of the 4 that the other brands come with, I'm guessing that's the reason why they work and the others dont.

OK, thanks for the clarification - so I guess I´ll try it and see what happens.

Many thanks for sharing your experience!
