I recently began having issues with my battery on my laptop, it would randomly die and shut down my computer regardless of the charge on the battery. After just using the power cord for some time it completely died and would not turn back on even with the power cord. After removing the battery it powered up just fine on the power cord. I sent a message about the battery a week ago to HP but haven't gotten a response.
So I had just planned on buying a replacement battery to see if that fixes the problem. My issue is when I search my part number (HP PX03XL) on the HP website it can't come up with anything. I've searched through the lists of all the batteries and still can't find it. I can find it online but I am nervous about buying it from Amazon or eBay since a lot of people seem to have quality issues with those. I want to buy a genuine HP replacement battery but I don't know how!
Any help would be appreciated.

Let me take a moment to thank you for posting on the HP Support Forums.
I understand that you have an HP ENVY TouchSmart m6 series laptop. I read that the laptop powers off randomly even though the battery has enough charge in it. Even with the battery and ac adapter connected, the laptop powers off and does not turn back on. I read that after removing the battery it powered up just fine on the power cord.
Before you purchase a replacement battery, let me inform you that it may not necessarily be a battery issue. To provide an accurate resolution, I need a few more details:
- Please let me know the exact product model no. This link will help you to find the model no: http://hp.care/2bygf7l
I recommend you to perform the following steps to isolate the issue and arrive at a fix:
- Power off the laptop.
- Remove the battery out.
- Disconnected AC adapter from the laptop.
- Press and hold the power button for 15 seconds.
- Reconnect the battery and plug the AC adapter.
- Power ON the laptop.
Now, please perform the steps to test and calibrate the battery from this link.
NOTE: If the laptop stays on for some time then you may run the test.
I hope this helps. Please feel free to reply. Cheers! 🙂

MKazi,
Thanks so much for getting back to me. The number next to PN on the bottom of the laptop reads: E0K41UA#ABA. Unless it is the model you want which reads: m6-k015dx. If there is a different number that you need please let me know. I tried the solution you listed in your answer but it still won't turn on with the battery attached. So I was unable to test and calibrate the battery.

Hi @bjack115
I am the The_Fossette. It looks like you were interacting with @MKazi, but he is out of the office today so I'll take over from here.
I recommend you to turn on the computer using the AC adapter and once the computer boots to windows plug the battery.
Then, follow below steps and check if it helps.
Step 1: Click the Windows “Start” button and right-click “Computer.”
Step 2: Click “Manage,” then “Device Manager.”
Step 3: Click the “Batteries” section. A list of devices will appear.
Step 4: Right-click the “Microsoft ACPI-Compliant Control Method Battery” device and click “Uninstall.”
Step 5: Click the “Action” menu item and “Scan for Hardware Changes” to reinstall the driver.
Restart the computer and check whether the issue is resolved.
If the issue persists, follow the steps in the below article.
Let me know how it goes and you have a great day!
Take care.
Cheers!

I tried your solution but unfortunately it didn't work either. I turned the computer on with the AC adapter, plugged the battery into the computer, and it froze completely. The screen was flickering a bunch and when it did hold still I was unable to move my cursor or to use my touchpad. Even after I disconnected the battery it was still frozen. I had to hold the power button to get it to turn off. When I removed the battery, attached the AC adapter, and powered it back up it was completely fine again. I tried it again but first uninstalled the battery driver from the device manager but I got the same result.
When my battery originally started going bad I ran one of those battery checkers from the link you attached. One of them said the battery was totally fine while the one where you reset the computer said it couldn't detect a battery at all.
I'm really pretty confused by this point. I'm not even sure if it is still just a battery issue or I have other problems as well.

Hi @bjack115
There are two possibilities, either the battery is gone bad or the battery connector on the computer is bad. I recommend you to contact phone support and they will assist you in purchasing a replacement battery.
Here is how you can get in touch with the phone support.
Open link: www.hp.com/contacthp/
Enter Product number or select to auto detects
Scroll down to "Still need help? Complete the form to select your contact options"
Scroll down and click on HP contact options - click on Get phone number.
Take care.
Cheers!
