ZBook 15 G3
Microsoft Windows 10 (64-bit)

Hello Support,

i have a new ZBook 15 G3 with OS Windows 10 Anniversary 64bit.

I´ve installed the HP Client Security Manager Version 8.3.20.2067 but the integrated Synaptics FP sensor (Fingerprint-Reader) hasn´t been recognized.

The FP sensor itself has been successfully installed in Windows-OS and is running on driver version 4.5.335.0.

Is there any newer HP Client Security Manager Version available?

Please help!

Thank you,

Thomas

Windows 10 provides its own Windows Hello security software that is considered Primary to the Operating System.

Assign a logon PIN number to enable the fingerprint reader.

Windows key > Settings > Accounts > Sign-in Options

Add or Remove Fingerprint logon - Windows 10

PIN number can be used as an alternate means to log into the particular computer on which the PIN is created.  Try to keep track of your PIN number -- write it down and save it in a safe location.

Thank you for this info, baut i want to use the pre-boot security on system start and not Windows Hello.

Apart from that, it is not possible to activate or to use "Windows Hello" because the system says "Windows hello is not available on this system".

The installed driver for the FP Reader is

Synaptics 4.5.335.0

Where is the problem?

Thank you,

Thomas

The disk encryption and related underpinnings (Power-on Authentication) are part of the Client Security suite of programs.  Client Security Manager should be installed first.

Client Security > Settings  Settings_Wheel_2.JPGSecurity Features >

Click through the UAC (Yes) > Enable Security Features >

Select your logon feature(s)

Be careful of the Power-on Authentication / Sure Key / Disk encryption settings.  Be aware that once set into place, some of these features may not be easy to remove later.

Fingerprint Reader

Windows Hello (PIN) setup enables the fingerprint logon and is available in cases where Windows detects the supported fingerprint hardware and / or when there is a compatible fingerprint reader and an installed fingerprint Driver.

Windows Hello Facial recognition requires a TrueSense camera (high grade webcam).

Set up to sign into your computer using your Microsoft logon credentials.

Set up a PIN to enable the fingerprint reader.

Try

  • Download the Synaptics - Validity Driver sp74390.exe
  • Create a Restore Point
  • Open the Device Manager > Biometrics > Right-Click on your fingerprint driver >
  • Uninstall and tick the box to delete the Driver >
  • Shut down the computer > wait a couple of seconds > boot and log in

  • Check Windows key > Settings > Accounts > Sign-in Options

If Windows Hello PIN is not available >>

  • Install the downloaded Validity Driver >
  • Shut down the computer > wait a couple of seconds > boot and log in
  • Check Windows key > Settings > Accounts > Sign-in Options

Will that work?  Unknown - there are a number of dependent factors:  File System infrastructure, Installed version of Windows 10, HP Driver installations.

Lack of Windows Hello is a Windows "thing", not something that is dependent on the brand of computer.

If all else fails, and you have not yet done so, consider updating your Windows to Windows 10 AU (Anniversary Update - currently version 1607 build 14393.51).
