Hey everyone, my Compaq 420 does not detect any connections, the wireless icon has a red "X" on it

and when I try to connect to any hot spot it does not work, lately I installed Ubuntu with a dual boot

then a couple of days it failed to detect any connections, then I reverted back to Windows 7 and still

not work, I tried to install a couple of drivers but to no avail, I ended up reinstalling Windows 7 and

reinsatalling a couple of drivers from Driver Pack Solution but it didnt work aswell.

Any answers?

Hii , I have couple of suggesstions you can check to diagose the problem with wireless.

First make sure in device manager is device if wireless network driver is installed if not and you can not find or match the right driver you can open the back panel and check the manufacture of wireless card it self and download the latest driver either searching on google or maufacturte website many times it intel and you can download the driver driectly from instel website   or broadcom im sure this works.

Once driver is installed make sure you have switch on the wireless button look on your top functions keys you have to hold the Fn Key + press the  appropiate key from top functions key buttons to  turn the wireless card on functions keys should have wireless symbol on it .

Good luck let me know if still does not work or get me back with your wirless card model no which can be found opening the back panel i will download the driver or send you the link , Goood Luck

Hey there, I opened the backpanel of my laptop to find the manufacturing model, I looked into Google and I downloaded the driver, I installed the driver did a couple of restarts but it seems to have no effect, I seem to notice that in the Network properties my Wireless Connection reads that it is on, but the only problem was it does not detect any wireless connection, besides from my HP-Pavilion dv6 which it does.

How do you manually turn on the wireless connection via the laptop and not physically?

Or is it that I have missed another driver from last time's reformat?

I have finally set it working, the problem was somehow HP Compaq 420 is unable to detect HP Connection Manager, so I have to install HP Connection Manager and manually activate the wireless feature there and I am able to disable and enable it from the keyboard.

I had the exact same issue where it does not detect any wifi connections, the wireless icon has a red "X" on it. I downloaded the HP Wireless Assistance and found out that the wireless Lan was disable. Enabled it to get the wifi working.
