Hi,

I have my laptop HP Compaq CQ57-229WM brought by my grandfather last last year. The warranty was out. This is my first choice to repair my laptop. When i turn on my laptop it will just keep on saying this in the blue square in the center of the screen....

A problem has been detected and windows has been shut down to prevent damage to your computer.

A process or thread crucial to system operation has unexpectedly exited or terminated.

If this is the first time you've seen this stop error screen, restart your computer. If this screen appears again, follow these steps:

Check to make sure any new hardware or software is properly installed.

If this is a new installation, ask your hardware or software manufacturer for any windows updates you might need.

If problems continue, disable or remove any newly installed hardware or software. Disable BIOS memory options such as caching or shadowning. If you need to use safe mode to remove or disable components, restart your comnputer. Press F8 to select Advanced Startup Options, and then select Safe Mode.

Hi.

At first thanks a lot for your help.

I solved my issue in this way.

I removed my hard drive from lap top, took all documents that i didnt wont to lose  and formated it from another pc.

I downloaded the first file her ( http://www.w7forums.com/threads/official-windows-7-sp1-iso-image-downloads.12325/ )

and created a bootable usb Windows 7 installer on my usd drive with this tool ( http://download.cnet.com/Windows-7-USB-DVD-Download-Tool/3000-18513_4-10972600.html?tag=mncol;1 )

I insterted back my hard drive to my lap top and when i started up it, i boot it form my usb drive and istalled win 7.

Now it works all fine. Just have to reinstall my programs.

Thanks for your help again.

Hi,

Shut down the notebook.  Tap away at the esc key as you start the notebook to enter the Start-up Menu.  Select the Bios option ( usually f10 ) and under the Advanced or Diagnostic tab you should find the facility to run tests on both the Hard Drive and Memory.  Post back with the details of any error messages.

If both the above tests pass, try the following.

If you don't already have one, use another PC to create a Windows 7 Rescue CD.  Download the relevant ISO from the links below - if you're not sure of the version, the Specifications Page list the machine as coming with a 64bit version.

Windows 7 32bit

Windows 7 64bit

You should use an application such as ImgBurn to burn the ISO to a CD - a guide on using ImgBurn to write an ISO to a disc is Here.  Once created, or if you already have this, insert the CD into the notebook and restart to boot from it.  Select the Repair option.

Select the 'Repair your Computer' option and follow Option 2 in the guide on the link below to run Start-up Repair – you may need to run this 2 or 3 times.

http://www.sevenforums.com/tutorials/668-system-recovery-options.html

If the above fails to help, make a note of any error messages you may get during the procedure and include them with your next post.

Regards,

DP-K

Hi,

Try testing the Memory as follows.

First, download the Memtest Image file ( .ISO ) on the following link.

http://www.memtest.org/download/4.20/memtest86+-4.20.iso.zip

This is a zipped file, if you don't have an extraction utility installed, download and install 7-Zip.  Please note, if you have a 64bit installation, download and install the .msi 64-bit x64 installer on the link below.

http://www.7-zip.org/

Then, right click the zipped file, select 7-Zip, select extract files and then click Ok.  Open the newly extracted folder to find the Memtest Image.

You will now need to use an application such as ImgBurn to burn the ISO correctly to a blank CD - a guide on using ImgBurn to write an ISO to a disc is Here

When you have created the CD, shut down the notebook.  Tap away at the esc key as you power on to enter the Start-up Menu.  Insert the Memtest CD.  Select 'Boot Options' ( usually f9 ), use the arrow keys to highlight the CD/DVD drive and hit enter to boot from the disc.

Run at least 3-4 passes and see if any errors are detected.
