Hi

I am running a DV6 - 6156EA laptop with Windows 7 64bit operating system.

A few months ago I had problems with HP Support Assistant not working after it had updated.  David PK tried to help me a great deal to sort the problem.  However it just would not work, so we decided to keep running with the old version.  This has worked fine.

I saw there was another update out so decided to give it a try.  I updated and it was working fine, bingo I thought sorted.

Then I noticed my laptop was getting warm/hot and the fans were constantly going, so I went to check HP Coolsense to see what was going on.  To my horror it had gone, disappeared, vanished.  I spent a good few hours trying in vain to download it and get it running but no luck.

In desperation I decided to uninstall Support Assistant and re install the older version again, I did this and Coolsense was back.  My laptop went back to how it was, the fans worked great and controlled the heat and everything was back to normal.  Then Support Assistant updated itself again and Coolsense has gone again.  Now the laptop is getting hot again and the fans going beserk.

Is there a way to get Coolsense back working on my laptop with this latest version of Support Assistant installed?  Or am I faced with going back to the old Support Assistant and stopping it updating to keep Coolsense working?

Apart from the noise I can't be doing with how warm the laptop gets without Coolsense and I want it back.

Please Help.......

Hi,
I am sure after all this time you have solved the problem! But for anyone else out there, here is the solution which worked for me.
Firstly, Uninstall HP Support Assistant from your computer.
Next, in Start, type in Recovery Manager - this will allow you to open HP Recovery Manager.
Open the Drivers section.
This will give you a list - click on HP Support Manager and Install.
This should then install the version of Support Manager, which includes CoolSense.
Hope this works for you too.

Having spent the last 3 hours trying different fixes for this, I cannot get Coolsense to operate with the latest version of Support Assistant running.

My laptop runs too hot when coolsense is not operating and the fans just seem to be running constantly at full throttle without keeping the laptop cool to touch.

In desperation I have uninstalled Support Assistant using Microsoft fix it and reinstalled the earlier version of Support Assistant.  I now have Coolsense operating again.  the laptop is cooling nicely and the fans are relatively quiet again.

However I have the big red exclamation mark back on the support Assistant icon advising me that I need to upgrade it to the latest version.

Ideally I would like to upgrade it but only if Coolsense can be got operational when it is installed.  Can anyone advise me if this possible?  alternatively can I get rid of the big red exclamation mark?

thanks

Hi

Please see the support document on HP CoolSense Technology at the followng link:

http://support.hp.com/us-en/document/c02638953

About half way down there is a section “Updating from HP CoolSense 1.0 to HP CoolSense 2.1”

Following those directions should fix your problem.

Also see the FAQ section.
