Hello, I am having a problem with my HP DM3-1112SA notebook and was hoping if someone here could help me.

I was using my notebook as normal with a slight heating which is the case with hp DM3's. As I had used my computer in similar conditions before, I did not worry much about the heating until strangeblack and white patters appeared on the screen and nothing would respond. So I turned off my computer by long pressing the power button and when I turned it back on, there was nothing but a blank screen with the following problems.

The problem with my notebook is that it powers on but the screen is blank and the hard disk indicator light is not flashing anymore (it used to flash when read and write data). Also, there is not activity on the keyboard and whatever I press it does not respond. And the wifi button is orange which used to be blue when working normally. The indicator on the trackpad is also constantly on.

I can hear the fan running though and am not sure if the hard disk is running or not. I have already tried taking out the battery, leaving for an hour and turning it back on trick. I have also disconnected RAM and put it back on.

I haven't disconnected the hard disk though in fear of losing my data.
Does the symptoms show sigh of hard disk crash or any other problem. I would be very grateful if anybody could help me with this.

Kind regards

Hi Bibek_Shrestha,

Thank you for your query, I will do my best to help.

I understand that the computer had a slight heating issue and it did an auto shutdown and does not restart. You do  hear the fan spin and are unsure if you hear the hard drive.

Here is a document to assist you with this issue. Troubleshooting an Overheating and Auto Shutdown Issue.

Here is a link to the HP Pavilion dm3-1112sa Entertainment Notebook PC Drivers, there is a bios update for models with an AMD processor, which the specifications show you have.  If you have not already updated the bios I would try that as it may resolve the issue for you. Updating the BIOS.

If you are still unable to boot into Windows here is another document that may help.Troubleshooting Black Screen Displays with No Error Messages During Startup or Boot.

If it proves to be your hard drive, you may still be able to retrieve your data. I would try installing it as a secondary drive, to see if you can access the information on it.

Here is the  Maintenance Manual for dm3-1112sa for your information.

If you are still unsure of the cause, I suggest contacting HP support for assistance.

Please call HP technical support at 800-474-6836. If you live outside the US/Canada Region, please click the link below to get the support number for your region. HP Technical Support Sitemap

I hope this helps.
