Hi, i will try to be as concise as possible while keeping important details.
My laptop is a HP Elitebook 2760p running Windows Professional 64-bit.
The problem is my battery is not charging even though HP Battery check says it is ok.
-I have to have the charger plugged in or the laptop shuts down instantly, also im using the ultra slim battery as my regular one is completely dead.
-there is a red circle with a white X over the battery in the taskbar.
-different checks i've done tell me to plug the AC adapter in even when it already is - i dont believe the charger is broken as i tested it with a multimeter and it showed 19v coming through (charger says it is 18.5v output).
-when the charger is in most of the time the charger light stays off (occasionally it is flashing orange), but then it always flashes orange when the laptop is hibernating etc (which i thought meant it was charging but it still isnt).
i previously wrote about this problem but i think the sheer amount of detail i wrote put some people off as it was quite a read so this is the basic info, i can give more if you need but i thought i'd leave it at that for now.
thank you in advance for anyone that tries to help

Hi
Try this:
Disconnect AC
Shutdown
Remove battery
Connect AC
Startup
Open Device Manager
Click the plus (+) sign next to Batteries category, right-click All of the "Microsoft ACPI Compliant Control Method Battery" listings, and select Uninstall In the "Confirm Device Uninstall" dialog box, click OK. (it’s ok if you only have 1 of these listings).
Click the plus (+) sign next to System Devices.
Right-click the “ACPI Fixed Features Button" and select Uninstall. In the "Confirm Device Uninstall" dialog box, click OK.
Shutdown
Disconnect AC
Insert battery
Connect AC
Startup
Also please visit HP website and update the Bios on the unit once.

Hi. thank you for the advice.
I did your first suggestion but unfortunately the battery is still not charging.
i tried updating the BIOS but i cannot, it says i need to connect the AC (which it is), i have read it says this when your AC is plugged in but have no battery as supposedly you need both to update your BIOS.
Do you have any other possible ideas?
