Just to be clear, this is more of a rant than anything else with the unlikely chance that a HP employee will stumble across this post.
Our enterprise has used HP hardware for quite some time. A majority of our laptops are HP 840 G1's and G2's, which are nice machines.
We just received a batch of the G3 HP 840's and all I can say is, what the hell HP? First, you completely redesigned the chassis that now features a 'fixed' back cover. Screw removal (10) and prying is now required to access the RAM, drive, and the battery (for the occasional hard reset). A potential show stopper for our remote folks.
The 2nd thing, which is just as disappointing, is that the AC adapter port has changed. It's now smaller port which doesn't accommodate the pile of spare ac adapters that we've accumulated over time, or even the HP slim dock AC power cord when you're in a pinch.
I understand design and product changes, but to make these drastic changes to the SAME model number is very concerning and surprising.

Hi,
I agreed with your comments. I think HP can give new series a different code, no need to make them as 840.
I know other vendor do the same and we have to throw away many AC adapters simply they changed the tips from round to rectangular. (Many of us have at least 3 adpaters each, we have to buy 3 again).
I also know other vendor who changed from one series to other series and after 8 years or so many accessories are still compatible.
Regards.
