Greetings,
I've got one problem that bothers me around for ages. So, I have a decent laptop (HP Elitebook 8460p) with good i5 CPU, 8 GB RAM and SSD, but with Intel HD 3000 graphics. I've seen this exact same model with differents GPU cards all around the market, but I've been told that I am not able to upgrade my graphic card to a better one.
The question is, how do I know can this product be updated or not?
PS. I have a Radeon HD5970 2GB 512bit graphic card that has been sitting in my locker for years. If the first option is not available, should I buy an external graphic dock and try to get it working?
Thank you in advance,
David.

Hi, David:
There are no graphics 'cards' in your notebook that can be upgraded, or a place to install one.
All GPU's whether or not they are the Intel GPU or the AMD/Intel switchable GPU are all chips soldered to the motherboard, and the only way to upgrade the graphics is to replace the entire motherboard with one listed in the 8460p service manual that has better graphics.

What do you think about my alternative solution with an external GPU dock?
Hi,
Sorry for jumpping in. Do you talking about the following path ?
Well, I have not tried it an will never try it unless someone gave me money (to buy parts and pay my hourly rate) to do a test.
Regards.
