Hello Everybody elitebook Expert!
My laptop config in short: i5-3320m 2.60GHz with integrated graphics Intel HD4000, 4GB Ram.
I don't like the elitebook 8470p cooling system and i can't see the normal reason of the machanism.
So, there is no problem when the laptop is on AC power, the fan is on and works well and this is ok.
But, i have problem when the laptop is on Battery because when the laptop is in idle mode the fan is not working but stay.
Only starts then just when it attains the 55 degrees. This is not good, moreover it is bad for me, i dont like it because it is warm.
I want the ventilator to work so when the machine is on AC power everytime on Battery too.
In the BIOS there is no option for that and i can't see why...
Plase help me! I need a program what can turn on the fan when the laptop is on battery or a tweaker or something else i don't know what but i need something.
Aida64 says: motherboard name is: HP 179B
BIOS type is: Compaq EFI
BIOS version: 68ICF Ver.F.32 Date: 2012/05/12
(I know that there is a newer BIOS but i don't think so that there is an option in the new that can handle the fan on battery mode).
(Sorry for my English please).

The solution to this should be simple... You didn't say what OS you're running so I'll give instructions for W8 as the machine I am on now is W8 _ W7 should be about the same.
Go to the Control Panel and find "Power Options" You're probably on the "Balanced" plan.
Click on "Change plan settings"
In that window find "Change advanced power settings" (It is in small blue print) Click on that...
In that small window find "Processor Power Management" and expand that...
Expand "System Cooling Policy"...
On Battery is probably set to Passive change it to Active and reboot _ go back to the setting and make sure that it is still set to "Active" on battery power.

Hey hpakos6465,
In response to your private message, I'm sorry you're running into this cooling issue!
You are right about the BIOS version. One of the purposes for BIOS versions being updated, is to make base-level function like cooling more efficient. So a BIOS update is almost always a first suggestion when I hear a user is having fan issues.
Download and install the above version. It is good practice to update it, whether it has an option for 'Fan always on' or not.
Another suggestion is to use SpeedFan. You can use it to control the speed of your fan. Just remember, you will notice a decrease in battery life when the fan is being used more than usual on battery power.
Let me know the results when you get a chance 🙂

I forget to tell i am on win 8 os.
So that what You said is not working becasue i am already on battery with power options/system cooling policy - on battery - Active. This was my first step to setting up the os. So this is not working.
I think the BIOS does not allow it.

I thing they did not put the option into the new BIOS.
Why would HP have put the option-fan always on while on battery into the BIOS? I don't think so.
"Just remember, you will notice a decrease in battery life when the fan is being used more than usual on battery power."
It is not a problem, i don't care about the battery life and time just the heat problem.
But how can i swich on the fan in battery mode with the speedfan?

...and i don't wanna hurt my motherboard with these speedfan soft because i don't know what i doing with it and what i setting in it, so its dangerous.
I heard about an hp soft the coolsense 2.1 but i can't find it nowhere on the internet and i don't know why, this program is good for this or compatible with my laptop and os or its not working.?..

Thanks for the question Akos,
I understand that CPU FAN does not work on battery mode in windows mode however it works in BIOS mode.
firstly, as you know BIOS has control over CPU fan and CPU thermal table - however OS has better thermal managements. once PC is up, BIOS information and thermal control is handles by OS. to trigger a change it has to be still routed through firmware only however instructions are based on the BIOS thermal table and windows power management.
we know the thermal management of windows is better than BIOS and best to provide you best battery performance. so in BIOS CPU fan may be not mostly spinning all the time but in windows its more effective.
one example for the same is, when you update BIOS on your PC or we-write a BIOS - CPU FAn will be running at full RPM during the process because windows does not control the CPU fan at that time due to update/change process.
its completely normal that you see most of the time CPU FAN is off or spins for a very minimal time. if its always off that means there is something wrong, however if its seen off on battery in windows - its ok. i do not think there is anything wrong here.
if you want to have the FAN run always, that means you need to run your PC at a poor/bad thermal table. which i do not think possible with windows 8 platform because its largely looks like a mobile focused(better battery run time) platform.
you may try installing any of the older (prefer non-windows OS) to check. however its not recommended. because it may result in a damage to hardware too (if a non-supported OS used).
Hope this helps... Good Luck !!!!!

Hello,
I can't use this post in my case.
What would be help for me is a new BIOS what is allows the ventilator to work finally in idle mode from battery.
So, HP can create for me a BIOS with this necessary feature?
