PeteS's posting was very detailed and I appreciate his work to document what he's found out about how the TRRS jack is wired.
I would like to add some information I found in my searches on this subject.
I found two conventions used for these TRRS 4-pole jacks/plugs:
- CTIA: Tip - audio left, Ring 1 - audio right, Ring 2 - Ground, Sleeve - microphone
- OMTP: Tip - audio left, Ring 1 - audio right, Ring 2 - microphone, Sleeve - Ground
The only difference is the Ring 2 and the Sleeve connections are reversed.
