Hi,
A coworker has a brand new HP Envy 3D 17" notebook PC. It has a USB port on the left / front that is labeled "SS". This usb port does not work with either a usb mouse or a usb flash drive (it doesn't even make the underside of the mouse or the light on my flashdrive light up as they usually do when I use these devices on other computers.)
I'd be surprised if a brand new computer would have a bad usb port, so I am wondering if there is something in the configuration of this port that would make it not work with these devices (both devices do work when I plug them into either of the usb ports on the right side of the PC).
If anyone can give me any suggestions, I'd really appreciate it.
Thanks in advance,
Paul

please perform this:

Hi Pankay,
Thanks for your response. If you don't mind, can you tell me what I should expect to happen if I follow your instructions, which I repeat below:
< Click Start and type device in the search field, then select Device Manager. expend USB Root Hub and uninstall all the content in it... (select >> right click >> uninstall)...restart the PC.>
Thanks again,
Paul

Hi Paul,
by performing the steps all the USB root hub drivers will be uninstalled and when you will restart the PC they will be installed again...
so if there is any conflict with drivers that will be cleared... and if it is not a hardware issue the SS USB will start working...
please note that it is USB 3.0 and it should support all USB devices.. USB 2.0 and USB 1.0 as well

Hello,
I'm having a weird problem with SS USB also. The 4 ports designated USB 3.0 (blue in color) work for some of my devices (printer, etc.) BUT I have a keypad/barcode scanner I need to use. It works fine with the legasy ports, but although it powers up on USB 3.0, it won't communicate the data to my program. ( ie: keypad entry or scanned barcode).

What computer model and operating system do you have? As Pankay mentioned above USB 3.0 should be backwards compatible. Also USB 3.0 won't show any improvements over 2.0 if the device is only 2.0 compliant, as such you can use the bar code scanner in your legacy ports (if your computer has them).

Hello lala458
Sorry about the late response. I am not sure why but I never saw this response in my email.
What is the model of your computer and what operating system are you running? I can check if there are any USB drivers you may need to install or reinstall.
Just to verify your mouse and other USB devices are working in the port, except for your external hard drive? Have you verified that your external drive is working in another computer? What model is your external hard drive? Knowing the model may help with troubleshooting.

The most current USB 3.0 driver for your laptop can be found here.
You may want to contact your external hard drives manufacturer. USB 3.0 is supposed to be backwards compatible with USB 2.0 and if you are having problems the manufacturer of the USB 2.0 device might know of a way to get it working. What is your external drive's model and manufacturer?
