HP Envy Battery won't charge when plugged to AC Adapter

HP Recommended
HP Envy
Microsoft Windows 10 (64-bit)

In the last few days I will have my laptop on with it plugged into the AC Adapter which is going straight to a wall outlet, after a couple of hours, my laptop turns off.  On closer inspection, I realsie that the battery is not charging.  I have to shut down my laptop and let if charge for a few hours, and then work on it.  But it won't charge while I am working with it plugged into the outlet.  I have read up about Windows 10 being a possibility of be the cause, so I do a battery uninstall, and rebooted the laptop, but that doesn't seem to have changed anything.  What I am missing here? Thanks in Advance

Welcome to the HP Forums 🙂 I would like to take a moment and thank you for using this forum, it is a great place to find answers. For you to have the best experience on the HP forum, you could also visit our HP Forums Guide for First Time Here? Learn How to Post and More.

As I Understand the laptop is plugged into the adapter/charger but it doesn't charge or power on anymore,

Don't worry, though, as I have a few steps listed below that should help you resolve this concern:

Unplug the charge and use the laptop until the battery drains to 15%.

Turn off the laptop and turn it back on after 30mins.

Reinstalled Microsoft ACPI-Compliant Control Method Battery under device manager,

Restart the computer and the issue should be fixed.

Also, Go through them all and let me know what you have determined is causing the issue. The first document has the most relevant troubleshooting if your battery appears to be not charging.

Battery Does not Power Notebook or Hold a Charge

Battery Charging Delayed When Operating Notebook in High Ambient Temperatures

hello Biswajeet

Thank you for your response 🙂 ... I will defintely try the first option of waiting for battery to go to 15% and restart etc.  I did however go to the link about the battery recall  ... I do own an HP Envy and bought it in 2014 so it does full into the recall.  How would I go about resending it back and getting a new one, as I live in South Africa now.  I did purchase it when I lived in USA.  Thanks

Hello Biswajeet

I tried shuting down my laptop at 15% then waiting 30 minutes to start up again.  It worked for a few hours and then when I started up this morning the battery wouldn't charge.  I then did shut down my laptop, took out the battery and plugged the laptop back into the AC Adapter.  I then restarted my laptop and it started up again.  So it appears it is the battery that is the problem that I am experiencing.  I will then move onto the next step in what you suggested to give a place to send the battery and hopefully get a new battery.

Thank You

Only thing that worked for me was a hard reset. But thanks for all the tips
