I bought the HP Envy Touchsmart M6 today.

Imagine the excitement of unboxing a new machine, one you've been saving all your money for... for almost a year...

and then you turn it on. Everything seems perfect...

till the wifi singal shows limited connectivity...

6 hours down the road, I've tried every possible fix out there. None of the fixes from Windows 8 or HP manual seem to work.

And now, I find the internet swarming with crap anout this limited conectivity issue...

The worst part in this thread is, HP will not even reply to these threads anymore cos they're out of options...

Dear HP tech supports... I run a web development and software solutions firm which employs over 250 people.

It saddens me to see the unprofessional way you're handling this with.

Please prioritize this matter and a find a fix for us... I will not turn off the bluetooth cos that aint a real fix...

If you fail to respond and assure the people in this thread of your corporation...

I will make around ten website in the best domains with titles such as "NeverBuyHP.TC" etc etc and my team of 250 dedicated developers will make sure that the shot is heard around the world. And I'm sure with no response from you, people from this thread and all over the internet will make my job much more easier.

Companies like you are expected to be on their best... You charge money not just for the products, but for your name as well. The BRAND crap

I do not mean to threaten you or anything but you need to understand that professionalism requires caring for your clients...

I hope you find a fix for this really soon

All,

What I did was remove all of the other drivers in the wireless driver list.  On my machine, I had about 4 or 5 other drivers listed under the wireless device.  Once I remove all of the other drivers, my wireless device worked fine.

Having the same issue as everyone else.
Have had the HP Envy m4 for a little over a year.
Keeps dropping off wifi even though all other devices work fine.
Do not have any Bluetooth to disable...
My question is how do I know if I am not messing something else up by removing other drivers?
I have 8 WAN Miniport drivers and a Realtek PCle GBE family controller listed along with the wifi adaptor.
Don't want to cause more issues trying to fix this one very annoying issue...
Thanks.

Hello Cvallerand,

I cant speak for all the other folks here having issues and Im not an HP employee, but maybe I can offer one thing that would help your issue.

Unless those WAN miniports have yellow exclamation points next to them, I would leave them alone. If removed (which can be a little hard to do) it can possibly screw up your network stack. Do you use VPN's for work? That's an example of what would install a WAN miniport into your system.

Always create a restore point if you do mess around in the Device Manager just in case.

Instead I would try this easier fix first. Sometimes this works for disconnection problems.

Go to that Realtek PCle GBE family controller listed in the Device Manager.

Right click on it and choose Properties.

Choose the Power Management tab.

Uncheck the box for "Allow the computer to turn off this device to save power".

See if that helps. If not, I am at a loss.

Hi photoray002,

It seems to be working for the moment, no clue why it decided to finally connect.

The next time it drops out, which seems to be every day now, I will give your suggestion a try.

Oh, yes, I do connect to a VPN network for work, so I will leave all the other WAN miniports alone.

Thanks tor the suggestion, I will let you know if it works when I try it, probably tomorrow am.

Hi photoray002,

It was working fine for ten days... Now no connection.
I tried what you said and unchecked the box just now, but didn't change anything.
Just tried the 'diagnostic' on computer and it is telling me my 'wifi doesn't have a valid ip configuration'
(After saying it couldn't check my internet connection because it couldn't connect to the internet... So not sure how reliable it's advice is...)

my 'wifi doesn't have a valid ip configuration'.

So your laptop is periodically losing its IP address.

Do you by chance have Bonjour installed? It will get installed automatically if you install any Apple products like iTunes.

IF you do, uninstall it and see if your connection resumes normally.

Let me know if this is what you have. If not I will try a different solution.

I do not have Bonjour installed.

Yesterday i tried disabeling and then reenabeling all my non windows programs for a 'soft start'.

I am sure I am not using the right terms, but just followed instructions on the Microsoft site.

So far so good.  But I doubt this will be the end of this connection issue.
