I'm working with a HP G72-250US Notebook and using Windows 7 64 bit Intel core(TM).
M350@2.27ghz2266 mhz 2 cores
Sorry for the long story. I thank you Gheagyrn Please help! me. Is it the Mother board or the Harddrive?
Replaced screen due to verticle and horizontal lines in color. Computer worked normal at times. I thought it was fixed but then while doing a HP diagnostic program the computer said to shut down because the batttery situation might harm the computer . I tested the AC adapter. I installed a new battery and at first it was working again. I updated and scanned with AVG & Malwarebytes. Did another HP diagnostic and at one point was told to restart. It never lived again to this point.
All it does is light up the power light and W/LAN (F 12). Blue lights are on at times indicating Cap locks and number locks are engaged. I did do a complete factory restore before it came to this point and updated the bios (to F 37) and downloaded updates for chipsets and Graphics also.(after screen installed) The only thing it does now is make noises at startup and power indicator is lit now Light keeps cycling.(light off, light on) in ten second intervals.

Hello Gheagyrn, welcome to the HP forums.
I see that after replacing the display, you've since ran into an issue where the notebook won't boot. That the screen is blank and have a light that flashes. I will do my best to assist you with this issue.
I recommend starting with these documents:
Computer Does Not Start and the LEDs Blink or the Computer Beeps
Troubleshooting Black Screen Displays with No Error Messages During Startup or Boot
These will have you test hardware to see if anything specific is causing the error. The document, can also help with determining if there's an error code being indicated by your notebook.
Start with the above, please let me know the results.
Thank you for posting on the HP Forums.

I thank you for your reply and I think you have sent me down the right path but I wanted to get your opinion before I spend any more money. I went down the path and the process came down to indicating that it is Ram memory that is causing the problem. As it directed me to do, I counted three blinks on both cap & num locks in each sequence of blinks. The power light was staying on and not cycling as it had been. The AC adapter indicator was amber but shortly turned white and stayed lit w/no blinking. I looked at the chart and it says the problem is memory.
What can you tell me further that would make it more likely that I would not be investing any more money and not getting the computer working again? Assuming that only one of the two might be bad, Can I take out one and try it and then trying the other to see if it definitely is the problem? At this point I have replaced the screen & the battery. What would you do?
Thank you, Thank you, Thank you !!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!gheagyrn
PS. I have also done a complete factory restore and updated the bios (F-37). Again, Thank you

Hi,
You can certainly take out one module leaving only the other in to test with. This would allow you to determine if only 1 stick is bad. Which is usually the case. If you have the means you could even test the ram in an other computer.
From here you'll know if you need to replace 1 or both or either. It is possible that the blink code is false and the issue is with another component. (ram and HDD would be the easiest and cheaper replacements).
As for what I would do, I'm not sure. I've never owned a notebook. I prefer desktop PC's personally. Which I'm currently in the process of a new build (all new parts to make a new desktop). When I do have issues though if it's just a component I replace it. Easier with a desktop though. I don't think I'd put the same amount of effort or money into a notebook. I've had family and friends with them, personally if I had one and get a few years out of it, I'd opt to replace over putting money into it. Seems easier, though a contradiction as I'd put that money into my desktop (but I treasure my desktop). 🙂
Anyways, hope this is able to help you.
