Hello,
When I start up my HP 2510p I get a message saying I should run HP HDD Self Test or press F1 to skip. When I run the test it very quickly goes to 10% in Test 1 (quick test) and then goes no further. I have left it for over an hour on 2 occasions and on both it remains stuck at 10%.
If I hit ESC to quit, it says it is cancelling and then goes back to the test, stuck at 10%. If I hit ESC a second time it beeps and does nothing.
If I hit F1 to skip the test, Windows (Vista Business) appears to boot and operate fine.
I have tried updating the BIOS but I still experience the same problem with the HDD Self Test. I am aware that it could be that my hard drive is beginning to fail but as the thing I would use to test whether it is failing (ie HP HDD Self Test) doesn't appear to work, I am not too keen on going out and buying a new hard drive just yet.
Is there a known issue with HP HDD Self Test makes it freeze like this? What else could be going on?
Thanks!
john

Hi,
This is a very old thread, so this information may be outdated to you.
Please write your notebook product number (p/n), which system are you using and country of purchase.
