Hello,

I was wondering if anyone can help me?.

I have a fairly old HP Pavillion dv6000 laptop which was working absolutely fine up until the other day when I turned it on and the screen started flickering (in BIOS/Windows/Linux live DVD) and it has done ever since. The colours on the screen are also very strange; please see the image below which shows the colours but you can't really get a feel for the flickering:

I was wondering if anyone could point me in the direction of what might be causing the problem? The laptop is no longer within the warranty period so I want to try and fix it myself. I tried hooking the laptop up to an external monitor and the display was perfect.

The only things I can think of are:

1. Faulty graphics card - if that was the case then I would have thought the external monitor display would also be faulty?

2. Faulty inverter

3. Faulty LCD ribbon cable

4. Faulty LCD

Any ideas?

Thank you for your help.

I had similar issue with dv6-1004nr and ordered a ribbon calble, however after ordering ribbon cable it still has same issue.  I think it's the inverter.  I will post after installing to let you know if it works.

Hi, I have the same issue, it works fine at certain screen angles but  splashes magenta color at others.

Can you  pls let us know if it was the inverter ot ribbon cable.

I have the same laptop with the same problem, i replaced the LCD, LCD cable, and LCD inverter with new parts and it looks better but not fully. i dont think it could be the graphics card because when i connect it to an external monitor it looks fine, does yours do that also?

Having a similar issue with my HP Pavilion dv6 2064ca Entertainment laptop. I believe I got it in 2009.

Everything that should be white on screen is purple and everything that should be black is green. Immediately thought graphics card but colours are fine on an external diplay (my TV through VGA). Anyone find a solution to this?

I'm also having significant issues with overheating and wondered if it might be related.

Updated BIOS and graphics drivers with no luck. Any help would be greatly apprecaited.

Thanks!
