thanks Vidya,

the installers for PCI Device and Video Controller worked, and so I am absolutely grateful!

however, the installers for Ethernet Controller and Network Controller did not. I think this laptop is 32 bit, not 64 bit.

Hi:

Below are the links to the drivers you need for the network and ethernet controllers

http://h20000.www2.hp.com/bizsupport/TechSupport/SoftwareDescription.jsp?lang=en&cc=us&prodTypeId=32...

Ethernet...download and install the 6th file on the list (Win7 and WinServer 2008 R2 Auto Installation Program (SID:1568649))

i am terribly sorry for bugging you this much. i think the Ethernet COntroller was successfully installed, but the Network Controller was not. At the end of the installation process, a window pops out that says:

"Device driver software was not successfully installed... No driver found."

Hi:

That network controller driver should have worked.

Please see if this one works instead.

thanks Provost - your newest link worked!!!

but now, something new in my device manager was added:

Unidentified
USB\VID_0CF3&PID_3000&REV_0200
USB\VID_0CF3&PID_3000

You're very welcome.

I'm thinking that is the Atheros bluetooth driver that needs to be installed, since you have an Atheros wireless card.

Since I don't know what the full model # is of your notebook, see if there is an Atheros Bluetooth Software and driver download available on your notebook's support and driver page.
