Can someone please explain why this is happening, and can you as usual provide the password to {removed for privacy}.
I'm pretty annoyed here. Let me explain.
I used to have a bois/poweron password set, Ive removed it. I had a somewhat common issue where on occasion it would seem to take minutes to POST. Other times it posts right away. It has gotten to the point where it won't post if I leave it for an hour. I've swapped HDD with another I had, I tested ram.
Anyway another forum post suggested changing the cmos or RTS battery. I just opened my unit and disconnected the RTS. Since then my unit posts immediately. So to me, the issue I had all along was a software issue not hardware such as the mobo.
Anyway, it posts, but it prompts me for a password, which is odd because I have none set. I've tried booting with RTS battery connected and disconnected and I get the same behavior. If I enter a wrong password three times I get the halt code I provided above, please give me the password to it so I can continue.
IF i enter no password, it takes me back to the post/boot logo and just hangs indefintly.
I took a multimeter to the RTS battery while disconnected and it reads at 3.04 volts which I'm pretty sure is normal.
Why does HP require a password IF the RTS is disconnected/replaced? Is this some money grab so that on HP certified techs can service their products? I love the look of this netbook but I've become annoyed with HP's politics. For instance I bought a bluetooth/wifi combo mini pci card, I can't even install it because HP blacklists all but their cards. So unless I want to hack a custom bios I can't use it. Give us OPEN hardware HP!
Thanks,
