Title says it all, to a degree...
There's nothing anywhere in BIOS that indicates this thing supports AHCI, so just wanted to pick your brain...
If I install an SSD to replace the HDD in it now, will it work? Will I have AHCI/TRIM support?
Any input is appreciated. Thanks!

From which HP notebook model year is yours? What is the model number on the black service tag on the bottom?
The one I have is pretty old. I just checked it and it is an HP mini 1000.
Don't give up just yet.
I just looked up some more specifications. The manual may very well be wrong.
The newer mini 210-1000 with product number WA543UA#ABA ad product name HP Mini 210-1010NR has a Serial ATA II (SATA) hard drive. If that is indeed what yours is, then it means that a SATA SSD would indeed fit and work.
See the first part of the following video. It sure looks like a SATA hard drive to me. Check out the connector.

The HP mini 210 series uses a PATA drive. PATA hard drives are no longer manufactured.
Unfortunately, an SSD will not work in your mini.
Take a look at the Maintenence & Service Guide for your notebook series on page 2.

I'm afraid that's not right, I've already swapped the HDD out once for a WD Black drive, and it's SATA...

The manual that you provided the link to and the one that I linked to state that the hard disk is a parallel SATA hard drive (PATA) , not a SATA drive. They are not the same type of hard disk.
I happen to own a Mini 210-1000 and it has one of those hard disks that are described in the manuals.
Perhaps your notebook is not a 210-1000 model. Check the label on the bottom of the mini.
What is Parallel SATA, also known as PATA?

My real question here, however, is whether the SATA controller in this thing would support AHCI/TRIM - in my experience, just because the interface is SATA doesn't mean the controller supports AHCI. There's no BIOS setting to toggle between AHCI and IDE, so I'm not sure what mode it's running in by default.

Depending on the operating system you are using, it is possible to enable AHCI via registry edits.
What is the installed OS?

I didn't even think about this until now - I'll just run command line to check if TRIM is enabled and I'll do a little more digging into system info to see if AHCI is currently running when I get home.
Thanks again!
