Hey guys,

i mentioned that some people were able to upgrade the RAM of their HP mini's to 4 GB although the official site says only 2 GB are supported. This should be because of the pre-installed Windows Starter.

I am running Windows 8 64 bit and want to upgrade my HP MINI 5103 from 2 GB to 4 GB. Do you know whether this is possible? Can you show me a fitting RAM-module please?

Thank you in advice

You're very welcome.

You would think that it could since it was 64 bit but I can only go with what the Intel specs show = 2 GB.

Like I said, it would be a high risk to install a 4 GB memory chip when all the specs say the max is only 2 GB.

The specs can be wrong too.

I have a HP 6910p notebook and all the specs stated the maximum memory was only 4 GB even with a 64 bit OS.

I took a gamble and bought one 4 GB chip and it worked and windows reported 6 GB (because I left a 2 GB chip in the other slot).

Since it took 6 GB, I knew it would take 8 GB and I bought the second memory chip and 8 GB worked just fine.

All I can say is I don't have your notebook, so I can't tell you first hand if 4 GB will work or not.

It will be very unlikely anyone here will be able to give you a definite yes or no answer to your question.

Someone would have to have your notebook and someone would have had to try and install 4 GB of memory in it.

Will one of these fit?

1. Kingston ValueRAM PC3-10600 4 GB (SO-DIMM, 204-polig 1333 MHz) DDR3 RAM

2. SAMSUNG 1x 4 GB 204 pin DDR3-1600 SO-DIMM (1600Mhz, PC3-12800S, CL11)

3. Kingston CL7 SO-DIMM 4GB (1066 MHz, 204-polig) DDR3-RAM

Thank you

Hi:

I don't think it is possible as the highest processor that comes with the notebook according to HP is the N550.

Intel states the max memory for that processor is 2 GB.

However, if you have money to gamble, with the odds stacked against you, this would be the 4 GB chip you would use.

I posted the links to several brands. You should be able to get one of these where you live.

Thank you for your fast reaction, it was very helpful!
The prozessor is 64-bit so it should be capable of handling 4 GB of RAM, isn't he?
Is there another limitating hardware-part?

Thank you for your patience and support.
I actually found some information about a possible support of 4 gb RAM:

I will buy the Kingston one and will report 🙂

You're most welcome.

I wish you good luck with the experiment, and look forward to reading about the results (if they are good :generic: ).

Here is my result: It didn't work 😄 The notbook could't boot - the screen just stayed black 😞

Sorry it didn't work.  :Crying:

Hopefully you will be able to use the memory module in another PC or sell it to a friend.

No problem, still worth it. Thank you for your help
