do this
1. do ctrl+r
2. type regedit
3.Press Ctrl+F in the registry editor and do a search for display1_downscaling_supported
4.You should see a setting named “Display1_DownScalingSupported” in the right pane. Double-click it and set its value to 1.
5. Restart your computer and open the Screen Resolution window. You should be able to set your screen resolution to 1024×768, which will allow you to launch Modern apps. NOTE: DONT CLICK SHUTDOWN CLICK RESTART
6.If you see a black screen after trying this trick, you can boot to safe mode to undo your changes.

For peaople having trouble finding the file, here's the link, where I came across Display1_DownScalingSupported on my laptop :- Run regedit >
Computer > HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE > SYSTEM > ControlSet001 > Control > Class > {4D36E968-E325......} > 0000
Goes without saying that the Find/Search tool is far easier! 🙂

2) Search and modify all values “Display1_DownScalingSupported” from “0″ to “1″
3) Restart the system
4) Enjoy the two new resolutions: 1024×768 px and 1152×864 px
